A thuismitheoirí agus páistí, 08.06.20

Obair na Seachtaine anseo. Tá níos lú obair ranga mar go bhfuil na múinteoirí go léir ag súil go bhfuil sibh ag baint taitneamh as na gníomhaíochtaí ‘Spraoi an Mheithimh’ – ag tabhairt aire duit fein. Comórtas pictiúr don tseachtain seo ná ‘páistí ag bogadh’ – seol griangraf den chlann/ pásití ag glacadh páirt i ngníochaíocht a bhí molta. Míle buíochas as na pictiúirí a chuir sibh chugham de na rudaí a thaithníonn libh sa bhaile agus tá obair iontach déanta arís. Beidh WebEx againn ar an gCéadaoin, ta súil agam gan na fadhbanna teicniúla an uair seo!

Work for the coming week below.  ‘Spraoi an Mheithimh’ activities – theme this fortnight is ‘taking care of myself’. For the photo competition, send photo of children taking part in the activities at home. Many thanks and well done for the lovely images sent to rang4sabhaile@gmail.com so far, showing the things children like about being at home right now, and some great work was done this week again – well done! We will have a WebEx session Wednesday 1:00, and finish our quiz – hopefully without technical problems this time.

Abairt agus pictiúr le bhúr dtoil! Is maith liom bheith sa bhaile mar…Inish dom rud amháin atá tú ag baint taitneamh as sa bhaile, seol griangraf nó pictiúr leis. Sentence and image please!
What I like about being at home….Tell me one thing that you are enjoying about being at home at the moment, and send a photo or picture with it. ( Your child doesn’t have to be in the photo if they don’t want – just an image of what they are enjoying is perfectly fine) Once I have all the images I can make a movie presentation. It might be a nice way for children to see each other/ be reminded of each other, particularly for those children that are not able to take part in WebEx.

Abairt – Is maith liom bheith sa bhaile mar….
Tá an t-am seo an éagsúil ón gnáth am scoile. Sa todchaí ní chreidfidh páistí go raibh sibh sa bhaile ar feadh an tréimhse seo, beidh éad orthu! Tá alán rudaí atá deacair faoi cinnte, ach cad iad na rudaí atá go deas faoin am seo? An scríobhfaidh tú abairt amháin ag insint dom cad a thaithníonn leat faoi bheith sa bhaile ag an am seo – cuirfidh mé na habairtí le chéile i bpictiúr deas.
Sentence – I like being at home because…These few weeks have been very different to our normal school term. In the future school children will hardly believe you were all home from school for 3 and a half months. They will probably be very jealous! There are many things that are difficult, but what are the things we enjoy about being at home? Can you write a sentence about what you like about being at home during this time – as we know, nothing is ever all bad, there is always some good there too! I will arrange the sentences/photographs together as a nice presentation 🙂

100wc - Latest prompt Week 35

The prompt this week has been sent from a student in Ireland. It is a photo he took himself & I think it gives you a great story to tell!

I hope you are enjoying reading your new book 🙂 We can start Wonder next week, but we’ll take this week to read our new books.

Am – lth 93, 94, 95, 100 Gafa le Mata      Seaimpín na Táblaí
Beidh sé tabhachtach cleachtadh a dhéanamh ar dtús sula dhéanann tú an obair sa leabhar. Cuir ceist ar dhuine chun cabhrú leat dul siar ar bheith ● ag léamh an t-am ar chlog analógach agus digiteach ● ag cleachtadh ag léamh ar aghaidh agus siar.

Normally in class we would spent a few days doing hands-on practice before even looking at the questions in the book. It would be very helpful if someone at home could help the children revise what they covered in R3 by – ● reading the time on analog and digital clocks ● Count on and back by 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 mins

Our work this week will look at reading the time and counting on/ back in minute intervals eg the time is 10.47, count on 15 mins.

Dialann aclaíochta – coimeád taifead den aclaíocht a dhéanann tú gach lá an tseachtain seo agus cé mhéad nóiméad a bhí i gceist. Féachfaimíd cé mhéad uair agus nóiméád a rinne an rang ar fad!

Exercise Diary – keep a record of how many minute’s exercise you get each day this week Mon – Fri, and of the activities you did eg walking, running, cycling, jumping on trampoline etc. I try to do 30 mins of Joe Wicks or Yoga each morning and a 30 min walk in the evening. We will see how many hours and minutes the whole class exercised! Send the information to rang4sabhaile@gmail.com before next Monday please!

Bígí ag bácáil!  Imbliana i R4 bhíomar ag fiosrú faoi solad, leacht agus gáis.  Chuireamar fíneagar agus púdar bacála le chéile agus phléasc siad (mar gur chruthaigh siad CO2 gás).  Nuair atáimíd ag bácáil sin atá ag tarlú.  Ta na comhábhair ag déanamh CO2 agus ardaíonn na cácaí. Déánfaimíd níos mó faoi sin sn tseachtin seo chughainn ach go foill beimíd ag bácáil.                                           On your marks, get set, bake!  This year we were learning about solids, liquids and gasses.  We conducted an experiment by mixing vinegar and baking powder in a plastic bag, we sealed the bag and watched the bag fill up with gas (CO2).  The bag then exploded, though that wasn’t supposed to happen!  When we are baking, something similar is taking place.  The ingredients are reacting together to produce CO2 gas – which causes the baking mixture to rise and be deliciously fluffy!  We will learn more about acid and alkaline next week but for now let’s bake.

  • Bí ag bácáil – Bake something at home
  • Scríobh amach na comhábhair agus treoracha – write out the ingredients and instructions
  • Glac griangraf más féidir – take a photo if you can
  • Seol do oideas chugham – send your recipe to me by email
  • Cuirfimíd iad go léir ar an mblag – we will put all recipes on the blog, we can use each others recipes!

Bíodh seachtain mhaith agaibh.  Ná bí faoi aon bhrú an obair ar fad a dhéanamh.  Déan do dhícheall agus is leor sin.  Is féidir leanacht ar aghaidh le Khan agus Nessy más maith leat.  Wishing everyone a good week.  Please don’t be under any pressure regarding the work.  Do your best and that’s enough. 3 – ‘Why had they let Chad make his life so miserable, day after day after day?’ Why do you think Marshall’s classmates let this happen? Why didn’t anyone stick up for him? Why do you think ‘everyone else seemed to turn against him too’ ? Do you agree with Marshall that it was because he was ‘a thumb-sucking coward’?

ABOUT FUZZY MUD

Fifth grader Tamaya Dhilwaddi and seventh grader Marshall Walsh have been walking to and from Woodridge Academy together since elementary school. But their routine is disrupted when bully Chad Hilligas challenges Marshall to a fight.

To avoid the conflict, Marshall takes a shortcut home through the off-limits woods. Tamaya, unaware of the reason for the detour, reluctantly follows. They soon get lost. And then they find trouble. Bigger trouble than anyone could ever have imagined. What they uncover might affect the future of the world.

FUZZY MUD is an imaginative and suspenseful story of the great lengths we’ll go to for friendship and family, the mishaps and breakthroughs that are made in the name of science, and the wonders of mud . . . fuzzy mud.

It was lovely to get 100wc stories and persuasive writing passages from so many children.  A big well done to all who are working away busily on Khan Academy.  I can see your progress!  I set maths assignments based on what I think we need to practice, but there are other very interesting things to do on Khan also, if you would like to try something different  eg the coding.

Not everybody is working regularly on Khan, so if it doesn’t suit for a particular reason, or if I have set the work at too hard/easy a level please let me know.

If you haven’t already, it would be great to register with Folens Online – to get access to books/resources.  My apologies, I am sure people are overwhelmed already with log in details, but with Folens Online you can stay logged in at least, you only need to do it once.  It is a good resource that we can use regularly.

You can complete the comprehension/grammar exercises A – E   or why not have a go at some persuasive writing yourself –

” _________ is the best pastime ever. ”

(Introduce your pastime and give 3 reasons why it is so good.  Can you make others agree with you?!)

My attempt is here!! https://rang4mairead.edublogs.org/2020/04/20/gardening-is-the-best-pastime-ever-mairead/

100wc and persuasuve witing can be sent to rang4sabhaile@gmail.com as word doc or screen shot.

Remember!!   nessy.com  (Reading and Spelling and Writing Beach) Don’t forget to do the assessments to set your targets – it will be easy at first but it will get more challenging once you set your targets.

Dia dhaoibh páistí agus tuismitheoirí,

Ta súil agam go bhfuil daoine go maith an tseachtain seo.  Bhí mé an-sásta cloisteáil ó dhaoine tríd an blag agus ríomhphost.  Bhí na scéalta don 100wc that barr agus bhí daoine timpeall an domhain ag baint taitneamh astu.  Beidh rogha idir 2 prompt an tseachtain seo, chomh maith le obair Nessy Readging and Spelling, agus Mata nua ar Khan Academy.  Tá páistí ag obair go dian ar Spellings for Me, maith sibh, coinnigh suas é!

I hope all are well, I was delighted to hear from so many of you this week.  The 100wc stories submitted received a great response from around the world!  Many children are making fantastic progress in Spellings for Me, well done.  Keep up the great work.  This week we will have a choice of 2 prompts for the 100wc and have new login details for Nessy Reading and Spelling and we can do our Maths online on Khan Academy (login details to follow on Aladdin).  I would love to see how the children have been getting on with their Mata Meabhrach (unfortunately children are at different stages in the book so posting answers isn’t possible, but please take a screen shot of the work and email it  so I can take a look, give feedback and see if there are common errors to work on)

Mata

Seaimpín na Táblaí – one column a day would be great

Khan Academy – tasks set by teacher

If this work is causing any extra pressure or stress to you or your child please do not worry about it.  I would be very grateful if you could get in touch and let me know what has worked well/ isn’t working for you regarding their schoolwork at home.  Please remember I do not expect you to be ‘teaching’ your child – that’s my job!  I hope that your child will be able to do these activities on their own with minimal help.  If your child is having difficulty with a particular task please let me know.  I can monitor their progress on the online learning sites and see how they are doing.
